Police uncover ritualists’den in Ogun

The police operatives attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS), Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos have discovered a ritualists’ den at Abule Ifa, Siun in Obafemi Owode Local Council of Ogun State.

The police also arrested the suspected ringleaders of the syndicate, Taiwo Adeleke and Kayode Oseni at the village recently.The den was being used to swindle prominent Nigerians, especially politicians of their hard-earned money.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Superintendent of Police said the members of the public discovered the den through intelligence gathering and a tip-off.

The PPRO said the den was being used by suspected fraudsters and ritualists to defraud innocent Nigerians and perpetrate other evil acts. According to him, “The den, a massive edifice, contained several fetish structures/materials, assorted charms, figurines, shrines and some inscriptions that indicate names of prominent dignitaries who have fallen victims of the antics of the suspects.

He said the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zone, AIG Abdulmajid Ali, yesterday, led a team of senior officers, including the Commissioner of Police Ogun State command, Ahmed Iliyasu, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in the zone, Suleiman Balarabe, Commander of the ZIS, Gbenga Megbope and Commander 16 PMF and several teams of anti- robbery operatives to the scene for the on-the-spot assessment and designing possible legal means of taking over the dangerous den .

The AIG, who reiterated his readiness to set all machinery in motion to tackle crimes and criminality within the zone, commended the operatives for the good job and assured the residents of the state of effective policing, which projected the Inspector-General of Police’s democratic policing strategies.

Abdulmajid Ali also promised that necessary legal steps would be taken to take over the structure and dislodge the syndicate while he charged the residents to be more vigilant and challenge people who come around for such deals.

He ordered for immediate prosecution of the suspects. In a related development, three suspected assassins were paraded by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly attempting to assassinate, one Mr. Onyebuchi Tochukwu.

Among the suspects was the wife of the victim, Mrs. Oluchi Tochukwu, a banker. She allegedly conspired with Chigozie Smart, 32 and Kingsley Ikechukwu, 36, to commit the crime.

They attacked the victim at his Agungi area of Ajah, Lagos State last week Wednesday, macheted him on the head, hit him with iron rod on the head and later poured acid on him.

They then took away his Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).They were driving to Onitsha, Anambra State, but were accosted and arrested at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The State Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu who paraded the suspects at the Command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, said the 32-years old Oluchi, who is a banker, masterminded the assassination attempt by supplying the weapons used in the attack to the other two suspects.
