Five suicide bombers, two males and three females, were killed in Maiduguri by the premature detonation of explosives strapped on them.

According to a security source, who spoke anonymously to our correspondent, the five were killed by a premature detonation of the explosives strapped on one of them, which lead to the death of the whole group.

The source said, the five had explosives strapped on them and were on their way to Maiduguri before the premature explosion of the bomb on one of them led to a spiral of explosions that was greeted by a loud bang.

The source said the explosion happened on Tuesday night Mamanti village around Jiddari Polo.

The security source, in a text message to our correspondent, said, “Sequel to a loud explosion ahead of Mamanti village around Jidari Polo general area on 27 Jun 17 at 1900hrs, soldiers in conjunction with CJTF deployed at Jiddari Polo conducted patrol in the early hours of today (Wednesday).

“During the patrol, dead bodies of five suicide bombers two male and three females were discovered about 4 Km ahead of Mamanti village.

“One of the bodies was mutilated following a detonated IED while others were still fresh with injuries and IEDs strapped on their bodies. Their target was Maiduguri Metropolis, but before the suicide bombers could infiltrate the town, one of the IEDS exploded which killed all five suicide bombers.”

Attempts to get confirmation from the Police at the time of filing this report on Wednesday evening were unsuccessful.

The spokesman of the Borno Police Command, Victor Isuku did not respond to enquiries sent to his mobile line.
