The Controller General Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Ja’afaru Ahmed  has warned men and  officers  of the service against  escape of inmates from any of the facilities across the nation. He stressed the need for them to redouble their efforts towards effectively policing and ensuring that adequate security is maintained in and around prisons.

While in the yard, the CG who inspected all the security beats, inmates association cells and the kitchen, personally supervised meal prepared for the prisoners.

While he commended the officers for their security alertness and quality of food,  Ja’afaru however asked the officers to improve on the general sanitation in the yard as well as increase the quantity of food served to the inmates.

He advised the officers against any form of laxity and unwholesome practice capable of compromising  national security, adding  that everyone must imbibe the new slogan of “Operation Zero Tolerance to Escape and Jailbreak”.

The surprise visit, according to Ja’afaru, is part of his administration’s plan to ensure strict compliance with the reform and change agenda  of the present administration.

The CG noted that the visit was conceptualised to enable him have an uncensored assessment of situation in prison yards so that proactive steps could be taken to correct errors and avert ugly occurrences. He therefore promised to continue the random visit to other prisons across the country.
