Armed robbers have attacked a former member of the House of Representatives, Aliyu Kazeem, in the Surulere area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the robbers, who the police said were also cult members, waylaid the former federal lawmaker at Coker Junction at about 11am on Friday.
Our correspondent learnt that the robbers attacked Kazeem’s convoy with guns, cutlasses and knives.
It was gathered that policemen from the Aguda, Bode Thomas and Surulere divisions went to the scene, leading to a shoot-out.
A police source said one of the robbers was shot dead during the exchange, while another gang member was arrested.
He said, “The robbers started shooting when policemen arrived at the scene. One of the robbers was shot dead and two others have been arrested and detained.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the robbery.
She added that the police were on the trail of fleeing members of the gang.
She said, “The Rapid Response Squad operatives, policemen from three divisions and men of OP MESA engaged the hoodlums. One of them was shot dead. Another suspect was arrested. The command is on the trail of the fleeing suspects and investigation is ongoing.”
