Suspected Fulani herdsmen were reported to have killed a woman and injured another at Adam village in Mbakyor council ward of Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State on Monday.
The attack came barely a week after 10 persons were gruesomely murdered by suspected herdsmen in the same council area.
Sources told our correspondent that the two women were working on their farms, alongside their children, when the suspected herders attacked them.
The source said, “The women and their children were on their farms when the Fulanis invaded the area, attacking them with machetes. One of them died on the spot, while another has been taken to the hospital.”
Confirming the report, the Director-General Services and Administration at the council area, Mr. Teryila Iorhemen, confirmed the report.
“It is true we have a case that happened this morning at Adam, located between Jato Aka and Anwanze.
“Two women were on their farm with their children when suspected herdsmen attacked them. One of the women, identified as Mbanegen Nwuase, died instantly, while the other woman whose name I do not have now, is critically injured and receiving treatment at health centre at Jato Aka.”
When asked of the fate of the children, Iorhemen said, “When the incident happened, the children ran away; but we have found the children a few hours ago.”
The security adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom, Col. Edward Jando (retd) confirmed that Iorhemen sent a report of the incident to him.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Moses Yamu, said he had yet to be briefed.
