The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a robbery suspect, Alhaji Badamosi Mohammed, with arms and ammunition.
Parading the suspect on Thursday in Ilorin, the state capital, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusola Amore, said the command received intelligence that Mohammed was the armourer of some criminals operating in the Jebba and Kaiama areas of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, who spoke for the CP, said that a team of detectives from the command’s ‘Operation Harmony,’ was detailed to investigate the case and when a search was conducted in Mohammed’s shop in Kaiama Local Government Area.
According to him, an AK-47 rifle, seven live 7.62mm ammunition and one
Ghana-made single-barrelled gun were recovered.
The CP further said the suspect had confessed to the crime, adding that he would soon be arraigned.
But Mohammed in an interview with journalists denied being an armed robber.
He said, “I am not an armed robber, somebody gave me the gun. Karimi gave me the gun to keep for him. I have not followed anybody on an armed robbery operation. I have never killed anybody. I am not the owner of the gun. The person who owns the gun is a member of vigilance group. He kept it in a sack and gave it to me. I just kept it for a day. It was the same day that the police arrested me.”
