Terrorists Raid Northwest Nigeria Villages At Night, Abduct 20 Persons

Terrorists locally known as ‘bandits’ have abducted  20 persons from Dange-Shuni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.

The victims were reported to have been taken from several villages in Dange-Shuni and Illela areas of the state. According to a BBC Hausa report, the terrorists have been carrying out the raids for the past two days at midnight.

“They (the terrorists) entered a town called Fajanbi and abducted nine people,” a resident told BBC Hausa.

The resident said that another man was abducted and taken to another village but had escaped. Upon his return, he revealed that he and others who were victims of the abduction were forcefully taken by the ‘gunmen’.

Authorities in Sokoto State suspect the terrorists to have moved into the state from neighboring Zamfara, where security measures have been tightened in the past week.

But Garba Moyi, State Commissioner for Security in Sokoto State disclosed that they have taken necessary steps to clamp down on the terrorists who are sneaking into the State from Zamfara.

HumAngle contacted Sanusi Abubakar, police spokesperson in Sokoto State for comments on the recent developments but he was not immediately available to take his calls and text messages.

The Northwest region of Nigeria has come under terrorist attacks in recent times, with killings and mass abductions occurring fast becoming a daily occurrence.

Recently, Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto and Katsina which are states in the region have taken strict measures towards ending the terrorism which has bedeviled the region.
