The troops of the Nigerian Army have destroyed 52 illegal refineries in Rivers State.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Sunday that troops of the 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, destroyed the illegal refineries at Krakrama, Bille and Better Land communities in the state in the ongoing ‘Operation Crocodile Smile’ training exercise in the area.

Usman said that the troops discovered six refining cooking pots at Better Land community but could not destroy them instantly due to their proximity to the community.

He also said the troops recovered two high-powered engine boats, 10 empty drums and a pumping machine.

He said, “Similarly, the troops, during raids and cordon and search operations as part of the training exercise, have also discovered and destroyed 52 illegal refineries and refinery cooking pots in Krakrama, Bille and Better land community general area.

“The troops discovered six refining cooking pots at Better Land community which unfortunately could not be destroyed instantly because of proximity to the community.”

The Acting Army Spokesman said that the troops also stormed a kidnappers’ hideout at Obiozumini near Obite in Ogbema/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area of the State.

According to him, the troops cleared an ambush of the kidnappers to release a kidnap victim from the hoodlums.
