This is coming days after the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, relocated to the North East, in preparation for a major offensive to flush out remnants of Boko Haram terrorists and Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Lake Chad area of Borno State.

The latest feat was achieved by the troops of Guards Brigade Nigerian Army operating in conjunction with those of Operation Whirlstroke and supported by the Nigerian Air Force.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. John Enenche, who disclosed this on Friday, said the combined ground and aerial clearance operation was conducted on April 14-15, 2020 at Toto Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa state.

Enenche stated that the “operation was a follow up exploitation against fleeing Boko Haram bandits and Daru Salam sect recently dislodged from their camps by troops of Guards Brigade at Uttu general area of the state”.

During the operation, he said, troops engaged the bandits who were hibernating ahead of Andah river line area in Toto Local Government in a gun battle and succeeded in neutralizing Four suspected bandits.

The Director of Media Operations, assured that the operation would be sustained to completely neutralize remnants of the fleeing bandits in the state.

To this end, he appealed to residents to remain calm and avail troops credible information that would assist to rid the state of banditry activities.

What is not yet clear is if the dislodged Boko Haram terrorists are those fleeing from the planned offensive in the North East part of the country or some of sleeper cells that could be activated should their Borno enclave be run over.
