The Congolese government said on Monday that assailants kidnapped two UN officials of American and Swedish nationality in Congo’s Kasai Central province.
In a statement, Congolese Information Minister Lambert Mende said, Michael Sharp, a U.S. citizen, and Zaida Catalan, of Swedish nationality, had “fallen into the hands of negative forces not yet identified.”
Memde did not give a date for the incident.
A UN spokesman telephoned by Reuters declined to comment on the incident.
“The administrative and security services are working … in concert with UN Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo to obtain the liberation of the kidnapped persons,”
Three specialised private firm subcontracted by the UN anti-mine service, were kidnapped in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo NAN on April 24, 2015.
