In the bid to alleviate the suffering of some displaced persons across the country, the TY Danjuma Foundation yesterday announced its expenditure of over N200 million on the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) welfare and training and empowerment.
This was revealed at the occasion of the orientation ceremony for 55 IDPs at the IDP camp in new Kuchingoro, Abuja.
Speaking to reporters, the Grants and Partnership Officer of the TY Danjuma Foundation, Gima Forje said the foundation’s expenditure was for intervention on the plight of the IDPs in places like Borno, Edo, Taraba, Yobe, Adamawa and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
On the IDPs in New Kuchingoro and Pegi, Forje said that over N25 million has been utilized on them, adding that there was possibility of the amount going higher in the nearest future.
He also explained that the TY Danjuma Foundation, in partnership with All Children Charity International Foundation (ACCIF) started rendering assistance to IDPs in 2011, and in 2015, they successfully trained 32 IDPs in shoe -making and tailoring in Pegi in line with the Foundation’s target of covering 55 IDPs this year.
Speaking on the 55 IDPs to be trained, the founder and Executive Director of ACCIF, Ranti Dauda explained that 20 of the selected 55 IDPs would be trained in tailoring, while 25 others would receive training in shoe-making.
She also noted that the other 10 IDPs would be trained in welding technology, with each trainee receiving start-up equipment at the end of the training from TY Danjuma Foundation.
