WARRI—ALADJA and Ogbe-Ijoh, the two Delta State communities, which have continued to lose lives to a lingering boundary dispute, have pledged to embrace peace,  following a charity visit by the Ugwoji Ochalibe Arubi Foundation to raise the spirits of the internally displaced persons in the communities.

The foundation provided free medical care and donated food items, including kerosene to several victims of the conflict at Aladja, Udu Local Government Area and neighboring Ogbe-Ijoh, Warri South West Local Government Area.

Chibuike Diala, who led the group’s charity mission to both communities, said: “We have come with some welfare materials and free medicare for some people that may be experiencing challenges as a result of the lingering conflict.

“However, the overriding motive is to sow a seed of peace in the communities. We cannot be disposed to good healthcare or proper feeding in an atmosphere of conflict. We, therefore, appeal to leaders and followers to respect lives and embrace lasting peace.”

Responding at Aladja, shortly after flagging off the free health care, President-General of Udu Kingdom, Chief Steve Sokoh, said: “Aladja and Udu Kingdom in general have always been peaceful and we have resolved to sustain that peace with our neighbour. We expect Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba to do same.

“Above all, we call on the Delta State Government to exercise the will and sincerity to implement the report of the Prof. Abednego Ekoko peace commission it set up to find lasting solution to our boundary disagreement with our Ijaw neighbours and the truth shall heal all the wounds.”

The foundation, which provided medicare to people with skin conditions, gastritis, hypertension, diabetes, and other ailments, also visited and appealed to monarchs of the warring communities to use their thrones to promote peace in their domains.
