LAGOS — First Nation Airlines yesterday suspended iflight operations to Kaduna due to what the airline called “drop in the number of passengers flying to Kaduna”. The airline however said it would resume the Kaduna-Abuja routes after reopening of the Abuja Airport on March 28.
Vanguard investigations however revealed that aside the reason given by the airline for suspending its Kaduna-Abuja route , First Nation has been operating with only one aircraft, an A319 plane, and the plane had gone for maintenance as a result of a technical fault it developed. Thus, the airline had no choice but to suspend operations.
Reacting to the suspension, the Director, Flight Operations, First Nation, Capt. Chimara Imediegwu, said the airline was not grounded by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority , NCAA, as has been reported.
According to Imediegwu , “The airline was not grounded but that the airline was re- programming its schedule.”He also said the airline decided to take this step in order not to continue to fly for flying sake spending the scarce resources following the drop in the number of passengers flying to Kaduna.
When contacted, the General Manager, Public Relations, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Mr. Sam Adurogbye, confirmed the suspension and added that the airline grounded its own operations due to lack of flight crew.
