The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered a comprehensive and water-tight security around all Independent National Electoral Commission offices (INEC) and facilities nationwide.

The Force spokesman, Frank Mba in a statement on Sunday said the IGP has consequently ordered all Command Commissioners of Police in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to protect all INEC offices and materials from all forms of crime and mischief, before during and after the elections.

He informed that Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police have also been mandated to monitor the compliance level of the commands under their jurisdiction to the directive.

“They were to ensure that no breach of security of any kind occurs within and around INEC facilities under their watch: The order takes immediate effect,” the statement said.

“Meanwhile, the IG has assured Nigerians of the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to deliver on its mandate of providing a safe and enabling environment for the conduct of the general election.

He reiterates the commitment of the Force to providing a level playing field for all political actors, while remaining professional and apolitical in the discharge of its responsibilities.” the statement added.
