President Muhammadu Buhari has launched the Abuja light rail mass transit.

President Buhari launched the light rail on Thursday Morning at the new metro station in Abuja.

According to the President’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, the Light Rail mass transit covers 12 stations within the Abuja metropolis.

He added that the rail line is the first phase of the metro line in Abuja.

After launching the train service, President Buhari alongside other dignitaries, including Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai took a train ride from Abuja Central area to the airport, a distance of over 44 kilometres.

The President also inspected the newly-built Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport terminal of the Abuja Mass transit train service.

The rail line is the first phase of a metro line for the Federal Capital Territory.
